Our Needham office is proud to offer a warm, family-friendly environment that is open evenings and Saturdays and provides 24-hour emergency call coverage.

Our Needham location is our original office that opened in 1970 when Chestnut Dental was founded by Dr. Stephen Shusterman. We provided coordinated care between our pediatric dentists, orthodontists, prosthodontist, sleep apnea specialist, and adult dental specialists.

Anne Hertzberg, D.M.D.

Pediatric Dentist

Dr. Anne Hertzberg is a board certified Diplomate to the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. She completed her undergraduate education at Colby College, ME, magna cum laude, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She was awarded her D.M.D. from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Boston. She received her training in pediatric dentistry at the Children’s Hospital/Harvard residency program where she was chief resident and was selected for the Farley and Von L. Meyer awards for pursuit of research interests. Her research investigated the association between gastric-esophageal acid reflux and the erosion of teeth. The research was published in the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology & Nutrition-Europe. Dr. Hertzberg was awarded the Richard C. Pugh Achievement Award by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She has traveled to Mexico in 2008 and Chile in 2011 to do volunteer dental work.

She has been heavily involved in Combined Jewish Philanthropies and has traveled to Israel and Ukraine with this organization to help the Jewish community locally and internationally.

Dr. Hertzberg maintains a staff appointmentship at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard School of Dental Medicine. She sits on the executive Board of the Massachusetts Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and was a past president. She is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and American Dental Association.

Dr. Hertzberg lives in Needham with her husband, step-son Max, son Luke, and daughter Vivian. During her free time she enjoys boot camp classes, traveling and reading.

Amy Regen, D.M.D.

Pediatric Dentist

Dr. Amy Regen, a board-certified Diplomate to the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, completed her undergraduate education at Washington University in St. Louis and was awarded her D.M.D from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Boston. At Harvard she was awarded the Silver Medal for all-around scholastic excellence and the Dr. Paul Boyle award for excellence in oral and maxillofacial pathology. Dr. Regen received her training in pediatric dentistry at the Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard residency program where she was chief resident. She was awarded the Richard C. Pugh Achievement Award by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.  Dr. Regen grew up in Lexington , KY and still cheers for University of Kentucky basketball!

Dr. Regen maintains a staff appointmentship at Boston Children’s Hospital /Harvard School of Dental Medicine. While in residency she conducted research in conjunction with the Progeria Research Foundation. Dr. Regen is a past president of the Massachusetts Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (MAPD) and is currently an executive board member. She is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and American Dental Association.

In her spare time Dr. Regen enjoys traveling, trying new recipes, yoga, and spending time with her husband and two sons. She has traveled to Israel to volunteer in a pediatric dental clinic.

Keri Peterman, D.M.D.

Pediatric Dentist

Dr. Keri Peterman, a board certified Diplomate to the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, completed her undergraduate education at Boston College and graduated cum laude with a BS in Biology. She was awarded her D.M.D. at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, where she received the Auxiliary Merit Scholar Award and the Award for Senior Student Most Likely to Succeed in Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Peterman’s post-doctoral training was completed at Boston Children’s Hospital and the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where she received her Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry.  Dr. Peterman served as chief resident during her second year. She also authored a research project on dental trauma alongside Dr. Howard Needleman.

Dr. Peterman is a member of the American Dental Association, the Massachusetts Dental Society and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Peterman enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, swimming, and biking, and she is a regular participant on the Pan Mass Challenge, a charitable bike-a-thon that raises funds for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Above all, she enjoys spending quality time with her family.

Scott Harsfield, D.M.D.

Orthodontist

Dr. Scott Harsfield grew up in Canton. He graduated cum laude from The University of Vermont with a degree in Biological Science in 1996. He then entered Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and was awarded his D.M.D. in May of 2000. Upon graduation, Dr. Harsfield completed a residency at the Harvard University School of Dental Medicine. He then returned to Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and completed the Advanced Education Program in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in June of 2004. Dr. Harsfield’s research, Squamous Cell Carcinoma Presenting as Endodontic and Periodontic Lesions, was published in The Journal of Periodontology in 2005. Since completing his orthodontic training, Dr. Harsfield has been an associate at practices on the south shore of Massachusetts and in Rhode Island.

Dr. Harsfield lives in Sharon with his wife, two sons and one daughter. He is an avid Boston sports fan and enjoys biking, skiing and spending time with his family on Cape Cod.

Adam Donnell, D.M.D., M.S.

Orthodontist 

Dr. Adam Donnell, a Board-Certified Orthodontist, was born and raised in Connecticut. He was awarded his D.M.D. from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Donnell served as president of his dental class and was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the National Dental Honors Society. Dr. Donnell completed an orthodontic residency at the University of Michigan, where he was awarded a Master of Science in Orthodontics. 

Dr. Donnell is currently the president of the Massachusetts Association of Orthodontists, and serves on boards for the American Association of Orthodontists at the regional and national levels.

In 2016 Dr. Donnell was the recipient of the Anthony Gianelly Award from the Massachusetts Association of Orthodontists, which recognizes one orthodontist each year for contributing to the field.

Dr. Donnell lives in Boston with his wife, their two daughters, and their dog Cody. In their free time, they enjoy visiting national parks in the summer, hiking during foliage season, skating on the backyard ice rink during cold winters, and tapping their maple trees in the spring.

Sharon Jin, D.M.D., M.M.Sc.

Prosthodontist

Dr. Sharon Jin completed both her D.M.D. and her Prosthodontic Fellowship at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Jin has been awarded the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics research grant for her work on dental ceramic materials, and the Joseph L. Henry award for excellence in clinical skills, research, and collegiality. She is a member of the American Dental AssociationMassachusetts Dental SocietyAmerican College of Prosthodontists, and the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.

As a prosthodontist, Dr. Jin is a dental specialist who deals with cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, crowns, bridges, dentures, temporomandibular joint disorders, and full mouth rehabilitations. Prosthodontists are highly trained in state-of-the-art techniques and procedures for treating many diverse and complex dental conditions and restoring optimum function and esthetics.

Dr. Jin is also board certified in dental sleep medicine – the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) with dental appliances. These appliances are a “mouth guard-like” device worn only during sleep to maintain an open, unobstructed airway, as an alternative treatment to a Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) machine. Patients like oral appliance therapy because it is comfortable, easy to wear, quiet, portable, and easy to care for.  Dental sleep medicine professionals are an integral part of a patient’s sleep medicine team.

Originally from China, Dr. Jin has also lived in Toronto, Canada, and upstate New York. She completed her undergraduate education at Washington University in St. Louis, graduating magna cum laude with degrees in Anthropology and Biology.

Dr. Jin currently resides in Newton with her family and enjoys reading, cooking, and hanging out with friends.

Richard Strakus, D.M.D.

Dr. Richard Strakus, a general dentist, completed his undergraduate education at the University of Massachusetts – Boston, majoring in biology. He received his D.M.D. summa cum laude from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and, after graduation, completed a two year General Practice Residency at the Brockton VA Hospital and Harvard Dental School.

Dr. Strakus lives in Newton with his wife, Ileana, and their two children, Alexandra and Christopher. He is very active in his church and enjoys outdoor activities.

Martin Spielmann, D.M.D., F.A.G.D.

Dr. Martin Spielmann received his D.M.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine and completed his undergraduate education at the College of the Holy Cross. While in dental school, Dr. Spielmann was the recipient of the ADA/Dentsply Student Clinician Award. His General Practice Residency was completed at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut. Dr. Spielmann attained fellowship status in the Academy of General Dentistry.

Dr. Spielmann lives in Needham with his wife and 4 children. In his spare time he likes to hike the White Mountains, play tennis and travel.

Michael Miskelly, D.M.D.

Dr. Michael Miskelly received his D.M.D. cum laude from the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Prior to dental school he received his B.B.A. degree from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Elizabeth Sampson, D.M.D.

Dr. Elizabeth Sampson is a general dentist who provides compassionate and patient centered care. She received her D.D.S. from the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, where she was honored with the Excellence in Esthetic Dentistry Award from the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. She went on to complete a General Practice Residency at Harvard University/Cambridge Health Alliance, where she trained in advanced restorative, implant, and digital dentistry, as well as the management of medically complex patients. Originally from Winchester, Dr. Sampson is excited to care for patients in Greater Boston. Outside of dentistry, she enjoys hiking, yoga, and spending time with her family. On weekends, she can often be found exploring the Middlesex Fells with her dog, Moe.

Logan Zhang, D.M.D.

Adult & Cosmetic Dentist

Logan Zhang completed a General Practice Residency at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Cambridge Health Alliance. He earned his D.M.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine and his undergraduate degree in Psychology from Tufts University. During his training, Dr. Zhang received the Academy of Operative Dentistry Award for outstanding achievement in operative dentistry, and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists achievement award.

Dr. Zhang is committed to providing compassionate and comprehensive dental care, with an emphasis on treating each patient as a whole person. With a research background in mindfulness meditation and experience volunteering on counseling hotlines, he strives to create a calm and supportive environment in the dental chair.

His personal interests include spending time outdoors, fishing, cooking, meditation, yoga, singing along to pop songs, and playing board and card games.

Paul Hogan, D.M.D.

Adult & Cosmetic Dentist

Dr. Paul Hogan earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Before attending dental school, he practiced as a dental hygienist in Boston beginning in 2016, which provided a strong foundation in prevention-focused, patient-centered care.

Dr. Hogan has a particular interest in the integration of technology in dentistry and is passionate about exploring how digital tools can enhance both patient experience and clinical outcomes. He is equally committed to staying current with advancements in dental research and evidence-based care, ensuring that his patients receive the highest standard of treatment.

He is a proud member of the American Dental Association, the Massachusetts Dental Society, and the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Hogan is dedicated not only to clinical excellence but also to building strong, lasting relationships with patients and colleagues.

Outside of dentistry, Dr. Hogan leads an active and family-centered life. He and his wife are the proud parents of a son who is just beginning to get his first teeth- giving him a unique opportunity to put his teething advice to the test at home. In his free time, he enjoys playing and watching sports, exercising, traveling, and spending time outdoors. He is also an avid fly fisherman and appreciates the quiet focus and connection with nature that the sport brings.

Michael Palys, D.M.D., MMSc

Periodontist

Dr. Michael Palys received his BA from Temple University, his DMD from Temple University School of Dentistry, and his Masters of Medical Science (MMSc) from Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology and has been affiliated with the International and American Association for Dental Research and the Academy of Osseointegration.

Dr. Palys has published scientific articles on periodontics and has worked with research teams at Harvard School of Dental Medicine and the Forsyth Dental Center. He was a research fellow in the Department of Periodontology at Harvard, and a clinical research investigator at the Boston Oral Health Clinical Resource Center. In addition, he was a clinical instructor at the Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene and in Forsyth Dental Center’s Periodontal Residency Program. Dr. Palys was also a research volunteer at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Department of Cellular and Molecular Biology.

He previously worked as the staff periodontist at Harvard University Health Services for the last two decades. He currently splits his time between the Harvard School of Dental Medicine as an instructor in the predoctoral program and the HDCC clinic.

Dr. Palys and his wife, Margaret, have three daughters, Caroline, Ella, and Lidia. When he’s not treating periodontal issues, Dr. Palys enjoys watching his daughters play softball for their high school and travel teams and enjoys playing many different card or board games with the family as well. He gets most of his exercise by walking the family dog Copper as much as possible.

Nicole Magier, D.M.D.

Adult & Cosmetic Dentist

Dr. Nicole Magier received her D.M.D.  from Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois and then completed a residency in Advanced Education of General Dentistry at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. She earned at Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health Sciences from the University of Massachusetts. Dr. Magier is a member of the Massachusetts Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the American Dental Association.

Dr. Magier grew up in Framingham and currently resides in Holliston with her husband, son and adorable Cockapoo. In her free time she enjoys spending time with friends and family, as well as bicycling, cooking, baking, and DIY remodeling.

R. Frederick Lambert, D.M.D., M.P.H., M.A.

Pediatric Dentist

Dr. R. Frederick Lambert completed his undergraduate education at the College of William and Mary and then completed a Master of Arts in chemistry at Princeton University as a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. He was awarded his D.M.D. from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. At Harvard, he was awarded the Dr. Norman B. Nesbett Award for excellence in clinical dentistry, the Lois K. Cohen Award for excellence in global health research and the Student Award of Merit from American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. Dr. Lambert was then awarded the Herschel S. Horowitz Scholarship allowing him to complete a Master of Public Health at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health. Dr. Lambert received his training in pediatric dentistry at the Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard residency program where he served as Chief Resident during his second year.

In his spare time Dr. Lambert enjoys traveling, hiking, camping, and spending time with his dogs.
